Division of Strategic Planning and Governance

The Division of Strategic Planning and Governance is a small, dynamic team that supports and advises the University’s senior management and governing body in relation to strategy, planning, governance and external compliance.

We are currently looking for an individual to lead our Planning and Analytics unit. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Planning and Governance, your primary role will be to lead and manage the Planning and Analytics unit, including business intelligence, planning partners and statutory returns. The team’s highly influential work includes direct liaison with the Vice-Chancellor and the wider University executive team. This includes:

  • Leading, enhancing and developing the organisation’s approach to the collection, analysis and provision of data and management information to inform the University’s annual planning process, policy formulation, and decision-making.
  • Delivering impactful, up-to-date management information, performance benchmarking and competitor analysis to drive, evidence-based decision making, using HESA and league table data and through the integration of data from multiple areas of the organisation.
  • Coordinating across the various University technical and professional teams on the University’s approach to data analytics and reporting institutional information to internal and external agencies, including HESA and the OfS.


You will have experience in managing others and developing data systems and analysis in support of organisational objectives. They will have a familiarity with the data used in the higher education sector, be confident in working with and influencing senior colleagues and possess the ability to prioritise and work effectively under pressure. Above all they will identify with the University’s values, and bring enthusiasm, personal responsibility and initiative to the role.
