This post has been created as a result of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Lancaster University’s School of Computing and Communications and Forsberg Services Ltd.  It offers a 36-month fixed term contract, with a £6,000 dedicated training budget. 

Forsberg, part of the Teleplan group, specialises in providing world-class positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) solutions across a broad range of markets. It does this by developing hardware and software products often based around Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS, GPS) technologies and classical data processing algorithms. As KTP Associate you will lead a project which aims to develop an alternative navigation method to overcome limitations with GNSS navigation, to provide a significant enhancement in UAV navigational accuracy. 

You will be employed by Lancaster University but based at Forsberg’s premises in Heysham. You will work closely with and be supported by the senior management team at Forsberg and academics from Lancaster’s School of Computing and Communications, principally Dr Uraz Turker and Dr Charalampos Rotsos.

Lancaster University is a top-10 university in the UK and in the top-125 in the world. The School of Computing and Communications is a research-intensive department comprising over 60 academics and 170 researchers, with a grant portfolio exceeding £25m from sources including EPSRC, Innovate UK, EU and industry.  

Ideally, you will hold a master’s or PhD in a relevant field, e.g. computer science, engineering, or mathematics. Consideration will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree (minimum 2:1) if accompanied by significant relevant work experience. You will have experience in areas relevant to the project, e.g. Al algorithms, computer vision, and sensor fusion; demonstrated through your previous study or relevant work experience. You must be able to take ownership of the project, work collaboratively and communicate effectively. 

This KTP is funded by UKRI through Innovate UK. KTPs bring together universities and business to work together on a development project that is strategically important to the organisation’s future.
