The Division of Health Research (DHR) within Lancaster University’s Faculty of Health and Medicine is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work as part of the Spectrum Centre. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the Mental Health Research Development Award.

The role involves supporting building partnerships with key stakeholders. The role will also include the whole range of research skills including preparation of grant applications, including supporting relevant PPI work and literature reviewing, conducting research, and preparing papers for publication. The post holder will demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work alongside a range of colleagues including academic staff and health and social care professionals. These tasks will be undertaken under supervision and would suit someone interested in learning a range of research skills.

You must have (or are awaiting confirmation of) a graduate degree level qualification in a relevant discipline and experience of conducting research in mental health care environments. You will have experience in conducting externally funded mental health research, drawing on mixed methods approaches. Writing skills are particularly valued, and experience of authoring papers for publication and/or research protocols is essential. Experience of working collaboratively in large multi-disciplinary research teams, and service users/relatives, clinicians, and service providers, would be advantageous. We are looking for an energetic, dynamic, self-directed, and committed individual with an interest in becoming a key part of our mental health research team.

The Spectrum Centre conducts high-quality cutting-edge research and provides innovative educational programmes to improve mental health support for people experiencing mental distress and family members.  See https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/health-and-medicine/research/spectrum/

We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education.

The contract start date would be 1st July 2024. A combination of remote and in-person working is possible. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements including working week and days/hours worked, flexible start and finish times or condensed hours.

You will join us on an indefinite contract. However, the role is contingent on external funding, which currently is due to end on 31st March 2025.
