Social Mobility and Student Success, External Relations

We are looking for a highly motivated, professional and knowledgeable candidate to join the Evaluation and Impact Team to support its goal of building evaluation capacity and embedding high-quality, robust evaluation among individuals and teams delivering widening access and success initiatives across Lancaster University.

The Evaluation and Impact team is based in the Department of Social Mobility and Student Success, an ambitious department which supports the University’s strategic priorities relating to social mobility and widening participation. This work has been recognised nationally, achieving awards such as ‘NEON Higher Education Institution of the Year’ in 2021 and upReach ‘Student Success Initiative of the Year’ in 2023 for the Lancaster Success Programme. This year we have been shortlisted for ‘University of the Year’ with the UK Social Mobility Awards.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the design, development and implementation of robust, standardised and creative forms of evaluation that will support the University in evidencing the impact of its award-winning widening participation and student success initiatives. Working with the wider Evaluation and Impact Team, the position holder will work closely with colleagues from a broad range of academic and professional service departments at Lancaster University to support the implementation of an evaluation framework, contribute to all stages of the development and use of evaluation, provide training and one-to-one guidance, and ensure consistency and excellence in the standard of evaluation being delivered across a range of projects.

This is a key strategic role which will require the post holder to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, enabling them to work closely with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders in divisions and departments, prospective and current students as well as external organisations. You will have a commitment to evidence-based practice, including experience of leading on the design and delivery of evaluation projects as well as a strong understanding of robust data analysis methodologies and a high standard of written communication.

The role is full-time and for the duration of 10 months to provide maternity cover and would be suitable for secondment applications.

Informal enquiries about the role can be made to Matthew Pawelski, Evaluation and Impact Manager – m.pawelski@lancaster.ac.uk
