We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced digital skills development manager with particular expertise in the design and development of online and face to face programmes.

Working within the Digital Adoption team, you will lead the Digital Fluency activities at Lancaster University, being responsible for the Digital Skills Training team within ISS, developing staff and students’ digital capabilities to enable them to confidently use digital effectively and efficiently for their work, teaching and learning.

Due to the customer focused nature of the role, and the need to work closely with the team, regular on-campus working is required. You will have extensive experience of delivering and creating IT training and support, using a variety of methods, including face to face and online. Experience of leading on the development of new programmes, working across disciplines and a good understanding of digital accessibility would be an advantage.

Major Duties:

  • To develop annual training programmes, adapting to the needs of staff and students, the development of new IT services or significant changes and the uptake of new technologies, and providing input to the ISS planning process.
  • To proactively support Digital Fluency initiatives across the University, developing an implementation plan for the ISS team.
  • To manage the Digital Skills Training team within ISS, taking responsibility for the development and welfare of the individual team members, particularly supporting and mentoring students and those on placement within the team.
  • To work with those responsible for developing digital training programmes across the University, offering ‘train the trainer’ support when required.
  • As service manager for Digital Skills activities, maintain a quality, fit for purpose training and support provision, including service analysis (review feedback, measure success etc.) and awareness raising of services provided.
  • To assist ISS project managers with the development of training and ongoing support plans for new services as part of their project planning (and in preparation for service transition)

Required experience, skills & abilities :

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience working in a skills or educational development area (Essential)
  2. Teaching Qualification (or significant teaching experience within Higher or Further Education setting) (Essential)
  3. Breath of digital skills, with the ability to learn new software and keep up to date with technological developments, including experience of using tools for online learning, such as Xerte, Moodle, Camtasia etc. (Essential)
  4. Previous experience of managing a team with the ability to lead, motivate and develop staff (Essential)
  5. Significant experience of high-quality course design and development, including the development of course materials in a range of media (Essential)
  6. Experience of developing and successfully implementing training to delegates from a wide range of backgrounds with different abilities (Essential)
  7. Experience of analysing customer feedback to improve services (Essential)
  8. Experience of undertaking skills gap analyses and developing programmes and strategies to address those gaps (Essential)
  9. Experience of planning, developing & implementing training schedules and programmes to address the requirements of customers, the introduction of new services and emerging technologies – prioritising the use of limited resources (Essential)
  10. Detailed knowledge of current digital fluency developments, programmes and strategies being implemented within the sector (Desirable)
  11. A successful track record of adaptability and resourcefulness in meeting conflicting demands and priorities (Desirable)
  12. A history of personal development within skills or educational development, along with a commitment to ongoing growth (Essential)
