Are you a skilled leader with a passion for portfolio management? We are looking for an experienced Portfolio Manager to lead, manage and enhance our digital project portfolio. As the Head of Portfolio and Project Management, you will be responsible for the new digital project portfolio, as well as ensuring the successful transition and alignment of the current portfolio of projects into the IT strategy and delivery lifecycle. Leading the centre of expertise in Project Management within ISS and working with KPMG as the key strategic delivery partner, this is an opportunity to be a vital role in the new IT Strategy delivery.
Major Duties:
- Maintain strategic oversight of the digital projects’ portfolio ensuring project management standards are set and adhered to.
- Lead a team of Project Managers to ensure the effective delivery of projects within the University’s digital project portfolio.
- Assist and advise the relevant governance groups with the prioritization and timing of existing and new project proposals, managing the portfolio of projects within the forward-looking roadmap of projects and activities.
- Manage the inter-dependencies between projects and the links to the operational plans and services in ISS.Escalating as appropriate via the associated governance structures as required.
- Ensure that all activities have robust, achievable delivery plans built around effective project and resource management;
- Provide assurance and quality activities across the digital portfolio.
- Working with ISS Delivery Managers, oversee the transition of projects into service, assisting with managing a period of warranty as required.
Required experience, skills & abilities :
- Educated to degree level in an IT related subject, or professional experience working in a range of IT related roles providing a breadth of knowledge across IT specialisms. (Essential)
- Certification / Qualification in Project or Programme Management Methodology and Agile Methodologies (Prince2, MSP, Scrum Master, AgilePM etc.). (Essential)
- Significant experience of managing multi-year complex IT portfolios, with competing priorities and a range of different business stakeholders. (Essential)
- Experience of establishing and maintaining portfolio management processes, methodologies and appropriate tooling to enable governance and reporting. (Essential)
- Demonstratable experience of RAID analysis to support successful portfolio management and objective achievements, as well as budget and resource management skills. (Essential)
- Proven experience of establishing a high performing team. The ability to lead, manage, motivate and coach a team, tackling difficult issues when needed, in a professional manner. (Essential)
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with high emotional intelligence enabling good working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of the University. (Essential)
- Excellent planning, organizational, time management and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead the leading the planning and organisation of IT projects to set deadlines, delivering on business requirements. (Essential)
- Understanding of the HE sector, and of business activities across HE organisations. (Desirable)
- Successful completion of leadership and management development training. (Desirable)
- A history of personal development in project, portfolio or programme management, along with a commitment to ongoing growth (Essential).
