The Department of Mathematics & Statistics is seeking candidates for a Lectureship in Pure Mathematics with a specific emphasis on Algebra and Geometry, broadly understood.
The Department has 50 permanent academic staff members, 12 research associates and over 50 research students. Ranked joint 5th in the last REF, Lancaster is one of the UK’s top departments in Mathematics and Statistics.
The Department has a thriving and growing Pure Mathematics research group. There are presently 8 professors, 4 senior lecturers and 13 lecturers pursuing research in a range of areas of Analysis, Algebra and Geometry. The Algebra and Geometry group has researchers working in homological algebra and homotopical algebra, deformation theory, Lie theory, noncommutative geometry, group theory, representation theory, and combinatorics.
We are seeking candidates whose research interests complement the existing strengths of the Algebra and Geometry group and having a proven track-record in publishing research work of international quality. You should demonstrate a clear potential for attracting research funding and research studentships and be a capable and enthusiastic contributor to the Department’s undergraduate programme, helping to deliver the existing syllabus and to expand the range of modules offered.
The Department provides a research environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each member, promoting a healthy work-life balance. To help you grow into the role, we offer reduced teaching load for the first three years. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.
Informal enquiries can be made to: Prof Andrey Lazarev (Head of Department) email@example.com
