Research Associate for ATLAS LHC Experiment at Lancaster

Salary:   £25,101 to £29,099
Closing Date:   Monday 16 May 2011
Interview Date:   To be confirmed

A Research Associate post is available at Lancaster on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The post will focus on delivery of physics results within the ATLAS physics program of the Lancaster group, as well as delivering the usual support effort to make for a successful experiment. Lancaster has a leading role in the B-physics activity, with particular interest in onia, CP violation and rare decay studies. We are also engaged in searches for decays of the Higgs to leptons and searches for SUSY and new physics using top quark identification. Our onia and search activities come together in searches for hidden SUSY.

Lancaster is a major player in the ATLAS computing and software development. Experience with OO/C++ and similar programming languages would be highly desirable. You should (or will shortly) have a PhD in experimental High Energy Physics and have the potential to be a leader in the field. Experience with hadron collider experiments and/or the ATLAS experiment would be desirable.

The post will work in the first instance the High Energy Physics Group of the Physics Department, but will involve travel to local, national and occasional international meetings and workshops. It is anticipated to make an initial appointment of two years, with the expectation that the post will be extended.
