The Department of Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation (DESI) at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) is seeking to make an appointment of a Professor in Strategy, Entrepreneur and Innovation. Lancaster University is rated number 1 in the UK for research power (REF 2014), has achieved gold status in TEF and is awarded University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide (2018).
Applicants must have an excellent international research profile evidenced through publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, an international reputation, evidence of significant grant funding and engagement with practice. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and provide leadership across the subject fields through high profile research, teaching and managerial activities and further extend the Department’s international networks and collaborations, research profile and its strategy to advance and support its ambitions to lead strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation education, research and practice in the global arena. As a senior scholar, the applicant will also be expected to contribute actively to the social and academic lives at the Department as well as participate in the guidance of doctoral students and junior faculty.
The Department offers outstanding strategic management and entrepreneurship programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has been ranked as first for the second year in a row for Strategy by the Financial Times Global Rankings (2017) and 7thin Europe for Entrepreneurship. It has been recognised by Elsevier as 7thin the world for publication quality in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Research. The two impact cases submitted by the Department in the last REF, which examined the long term growth of SMEs and improving SME technology performance, were both rated 4*.
The Department houses a highly regarded Strategic Management Group - one of the founder members of the Strategy-as-Practice (SAP-IN) community, and a leading international Centre – the Centre for Family Business. Members of the Department publish regularly in leading international journals such as Academy of Management Journal, British Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Long Range Planning, Organisation Studies, Strategic Management Journal among others. Moreover, members of the Department are active contributors to the international academic community holding key leadership positions in leading academic organizations, as well as Associate Editor and editorial board positions in leading journals.The Department also works closely with a dedicated business engagement function actively working with the business community; regionally, nationally and internationally. This creates a distinctive link to practice and excellent avenues for research. It also has a network of 50 entrepreneurs in residence (EiRs) who are actively engaged in the Department’s research and teaching activities. The combination of these activities have led to the achievement of Gold status in the Association of Business Schools Small Business Charter, an ESRC Outstanding Impact in Business award and a £32 million government grant to support the strengthening of the UK’s SME base. To deliver on its policy agenda, the Department also works closely with the University’s Work Foundation based in London.
