Research Associate in Quantum Ring VCSELs
£27,285 to £31,604
Monday 20 November 2017
Tuesday 12 December 2017
The Department of Physics at Lancaster University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on quantum ring (QR) vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) for telecoms and datacoms applications. Lancaster Physics is a world-leader in the physics and applications of self-assembled GaSb/GaAs QRs, and has recently demonstrated QR VCSELs with ultra-low threshold current densities that operate above 100 °C.
The role will involve the further development and characterisation of QR VCSELs, working with other members of the group, and in collaboration with three industrial partners. The Innovate-UK-funded project includes benchmarking QR VCSELs against industry specifications, with a view to commercialisation.
The group has access to state-of-the art semiconductor epitaxial growth facilities, a range of structural characterisation tools and electro/photo-luminescence from 2 to 400 K, whilst industrial-standard processing and laser characterisation capability will be provided by the industrial partners.
You will hold (or soon hold) a PhD in experimental semiconductor physics, semiconductor devices or a related discipline.
The post is initially offered for 12 months, with the possibility of further extension.
For informal enquiries about this post please contact Professor Manus Hayne: e-mail email@example.com, Tel: +44 1524 593279.
