The Physics Department at Lancaster University and the Cockcroft Institute is seeking to appoint a lecturer (equivalent to assistant professor) in the field of laser-or beam-driven particle acceleration in plasma.  

Applications are particularly welcome from candidates with a track record of excellence in one or more of laser-plasma wakefield acceleration; beam driven wakefield acceleration; ion or electron acceleration in solid targets; radiation sources in wakefield accelerators; applications of novel plasma particle accelerators. Applications from candidates with a strong research record in other areas of laser-plasma or beam-plasma interactions are also welcome.

You will join a newly established group in the Department of Physics. You will have access to ultrafast laser facilities within the department, and to particle accelerator and laser facilities of the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science at STFC Daresbury National Laboratory. You will be eligible to apply for beam time at the Central Laser facility, the UK’s facility for high-power laser science, and to the SCAPA laser facility at Strathclyde University.

You will also undertake undergraduate & postgraduate teaching duties, including supervision of PhD students, in the Lancaster Physics Department and at the Cockcroft Institute. You will have a PhD in Physics or Electrical engineering, or a related discipline, and an outstanding research and publications record.

The post is full-time and fixed-term for an initial period of 36 months.
