Research Associate: Advanced Battery Testing
£27,285 to £31,604
Friday 25 May 2018
The Energy Storage Group at Lancaster University is looking to employ a research associate at the postdoctoral level for a period of 6 months. You will be in charge of making Lancaster’s newly established battery test laboratory available to existing and new industry partners.
Beyond “standard” battery testing (galvanostatic charge/discharge, GITT, …), we expect you to demonstrate the value of High-Precision Coulometry and Thermodynamic Analyses (Entropy Profiling). This will start with systematic screening of selected commercially available lithium ion battery cells and will continue with in-depth studies of some new cells (including new electrode materials and electrolyte formulations) as provided by collaboration partners.
Main outcome of this fixed-term appointment will be a report to demonstrate the capabilities of the new battery test laboratories. New partnerships or funded projects may allow us to extend the duration of this position at a later stage.
Your work will also contribute to other research projects that Energy Lancaster is involved in, such as the Innovate UK funded “UK Niche Vehicle Battery Cell Supply Chain” (led by AGM batteries) and the “Multi Scale Modelling” consortium (led by Imperial College) of the UK Faraday Institution.
You should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline. We expect experience with high-precision electrochemistry, thermodynamic/calorimetric analyses of electrochemical cells, and some knowledge in the fundamentals on the modelling of electrochemical processes.
Surrounded by three national parks and the Irish Sea, Lancaster is a great place to work and live. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address equality issues in higher education and research. We warmly welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
Informal enquiries to Dr. Nuria Tapia Ruiz (email@example.com) or Professor Harry Hoster, Director of Energy Lancaster (firstname.lastname@example.org).
