We are seeking an outstanding and enthusiastic individual to join the Department of Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster University as Lecturer in Sociolinguistics. This is a permanent position, with duties divided between teaching, research and service.

You will have a PhD (or be very close to completion of your PhD – Grade 7 only) and relevant research experience in Sociolinguistics, with a focus on Language Variation and Change (including Accents and Dialects, Language Contact, Bilingualism/Multilingualism or Language and Gender).

The Department of Linguistics and English Language has an internationally-renowned reputation in Sociolinguistics, with a particularly strong team of Sociophoneticians who make use of a state-of-the art phonetics laboratory. You would work closely with the existing team of Sociolinguists, and also connect with a wide variety of fields within the Department including: Corpus Linguistics, Discourse Studies, English Language Studies, Cognitive Linguistics, Literacy Studies and Second Language Learning, Teaching and Assessment.

You will teach on the BA degrees in Linguistics and English Language, and contribute to the Department’s MA and PhD level modules. You will pursue research and publications at a level appropriate for a strong submission to the next Research Excellence Framework, and you will be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will also take on administrative responsibilities as requested by the Head of Department.

This is a full-time indefinite post beginning 1st September 2019.
