Lancaster University seeks to appoint a Research Associate in Film Studies, Media Studies, English, History or a related discipline in the Humanities and Social Sciences to work on an AHRC-funded project titled ‘Cinema Memory and the Digital Archive: 1930s Britain and Beyond’. The project will properly organise and store, as well as developing a website for, the ‘Cinema Culture in 1930s Britain’ archive currently stored at Lancaster University Library. The project also involves a number of research and public engagement events relating to archives, cinema memory and audience research.

The role will involve a range of tasks relating to the project, working closely with the project’s team, including its Principal Investigator, Dr Richard Rushton (Lancaster University), and Co-Investigators, Professor Annette Kuhn (Queen Mary, University of London) and Dr Sarah Neely (University of Stirling). You will be based in Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA). You will assist in much of the day-to-day planning and management of the project, including arranging and booking meetings, liaising with external partners and collaborators, and assisting in activities relating to Lancaster University Library and Information Systems Services. You will also be involved in managing aspects of the physical archive and in the development of the archive’s website. You will also be expected to assist in the planning of a symposium and a project conference.

You will possess a PhD (or near completion of a PhD) in a field relevant to Film Studies, Media Studies, English, History or any other area of the Humanities and Social Sciences. You will be expected to contribute to research aspects of the project, and will publish a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed articles relating to the project.

This is a full time fixed term post for 35 months
