Research Associate in Superconducting RF Engineering

Salary:   £28,331 to £32,817
Closing Date:   Wednesday 18 September 2019
Interview Date:   Tuesday 01 October 2019
Reference:  A2655-R

Applications are invited for a research associate to participate in the development of superconducting RF structures for particle accelerators. The post will be based at Daresbury Laboratory and belonging to the Engineering Department of Lancaster University and the Cockcroft Institute of Accelerator Science and Technology.

You will join the internationally recognised group of RF engineers working on particle accelerators. The post will involve the experimental testing of SRF cavities, and simulations/design to support the testing. The post may additionally involve the simulation and design of SRF cavities dependant on experience. This post is to support several projects in superconducting RF at the Cockcroft Institute depending on the candidate’s skills and experience

  • RF measurements of superconducting RF thin films, and development of test stands to measure surface resistance.

  • Design and simulation of SRF cavities for measurement of thin film coated samples

  • Measurements of SRF crab cavities for HL-LHC during cryomodule construction

  • Vertical testing of dressed cavities for ESS

  • Development and testing of SRF cavities for other projects as required

Ideally you should have a PhD in a related subject and experience such as high field RF cavities or superconducting RF.

This is a fixed term appointment for 18 months. Travel to collaborating labs may be required as part of this post.
