The Energy Storage Group at Lancaster University is looking to employ a senior research associate at the postdoctoral level for a period of 7 months. You will be in charge of growing and operating Lancaster’s battery research facilities, with a specific focus on high-power Lithium Ion Batteries and their ageing behaviour.

Beyond “standard” battery testing (galvanostatic charge/discharge, GITT, …), we expect you to operate more recent techniques such as High-Precision Coulometry and to optimize their application for high-power cells that require direct-contact cooling.

Your work will contribute to some research projects that Energy Lancaster is involved in, such as the Innovate UK funded projects “Pozibot: Quantum-secured remote monitoring and data logging technology that enables a dynamic insured warranty for battery packs” and “UK Niche Vehicle Battery Cell Supply Chain”. Furthermore, you will work closely with the “Multi Scale Modelling” consortium (led by Imperial College) of the UK Faraday Institution.

You should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline. We would welcome experience with high-precision electrochemistry, thermal/electrochemical battery modelling, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Some track record in the setup of laboratory experiments and the organisation of lab work would be appreciated.

Surrounded by three national parks and the Irish Sea, Lancaster is a great place to work and live. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address equality issues in higher education and research. We warmly welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
