Senior Research Associate in Computer Science: The Human Dimension to Automatic Software Repair (Fixie Project)

The aim of the fixie project overall is to develop new approaches to the automatic repair of software using genetic improvement. However, the aim of this project is to investigate the human factors related to developers’ attitudes to this new technology. The knowledge gained about developer attitudes will then be used to ensure that the Fixie project develops approaches and tools for developers that are acceptable, useful and habitually used.

You must have previous experience of investigating human factors using quantitative and qualitative research methods. Ideally this experience will be in the context of software engineering, though this context is not essential. In collaboration with other project team members the successful candidate will need to design suitable empirical studies, run these studies and analyse the results collected. These studies will run at collaborating companies, most of which are located in London, so some travel is essential in this role.

You will be expected to write and submit high-quality research papers, disseminate research results by giving talks and tutorials at conferences and other institutions, assist with preparing grant proposals, and undertake other research activities as needed. A PhD in a relevant field is required to be eligible for this position.  You will have a track record of high-quality publications in areas of relevance to the project and the willingness to undertake ambitious and challenging research.For more details, please see the detailed Person Specification for this position.

The position will be under the supervision of Dr David Bowes, who is Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering in the School.
