Research Associate Accelerator Physicist or Engineer: Advanced Particle Acceleration Concepts

Physics
Salary:   £28,331 to £32,817
Closing Date:   Wednesday 11 December 2019
Interview Date:   To be confirmed
Reference:  A2783

The Physics Department at Lancaster University and the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work in an experimental programme in advanced particle acceleration. You will contribute their skills and experience in particle accelerators to a programme in laser and THz driven particle acceleration and the femtosecond control of particle beams.

We seek a Research Associate with experience in experimental accelerator physics to take a lead role in the beam dynamics and/or accelerator diagnostics in experiments for particle acceleration with ultrafast lasers and high-field THz pulses. The research associate will work on relativistic electron acceleration experiments on the CLARA particle accelerator test facility; and on the manipulation and acceleration of lower energy 100keV photo-electrons. You will join and collaborate with a team of researchers in ultrafast optics, accelerator physics and engineering. You will be based in the Cockcroft Institute, at STFC Daresbury National laboratory.

You will have experience in experimental accelerator physics or beam dynamics. Experience in the field of novel or advanced particle acceleration concepts is desirable but not essential. You must have or be about to complete a PhD in Physics or Engineering, and have a record of publication in leading research journals.

This is a fixed term appointment for 24 months (final 6 months subject to Cockcroft Institute grant renewal).

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Steven Jamison, s.jamison@lancaster.ac.uk

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
