Senior Research Associate: Putting Lexical Cues into Discourse Context

The Department seeks to appoint a Senior Research Associate to work full time for 36 months on a project looking at how children learn to integrate and coordinate lexical and contextual cues in their processing of simple and complex sentences. This project is part of the ESRC International Centre for Language and Communicative Development (LuCiD).

You will have a PhD - or have submitted your dissertation for a PhD by the start date. Your PhD should be in linguistics, psychology, cognitive science, or a related area. You should have a thorough working understanding of experimental techniques in language acquisition and/or psycholinguistics, experience working with young children, and a beginning track-record of conference presentations and publications. Knowledge of corpus analyses would be desirable.

You will be part of an interdisciplinary and cross-institutional team that includes academics from the Department of Linguistics and English Language and the Department of Psychology at Lancaster University as well as academics from the University of Manchester and the University of Liverpool.

You will conduct corpus analyses and experimental studies to look at children’s linguistic input and developing use and understanding of lexical and contextual cues, and present the results of the analyses to both academic and non-academic audiences through different media.

This is a full-time, fixed term post beginning 1 April 2020 for 36 months.
