The Distributed Systems Group at Lancaster has a long-established record of empirical and applied research on cutting-edge computer systems, spanning operating systems, middleware, cloud computing, green computing, and self-adaptive systems, among a range of other topics.  It is one of the largest and most influential groups in this area in Europe, with a current research portfolio of over £6.62 million.

We are looking for an outstanding academic to continue our excellence in the general field of systems research. You will have expertise in fundamental systems research as well as complementary fields such as (but not limited to) programming languages, cloud computing, operating systems, complex distributed systems, large-scale storage technologies, and Internet of Things platforms.

We are seeking candidates with outstanding technical expertise in one of the above or other relevant areas, and a clear track record of achievement and publication. You are expected to have a compelling vision for taking research forward to have significant impact, and to have a strong motivation to advance through working collaboratively across the group’s research fields.

The School of Computing and Communications (SCC) at Lancaster University is an international centre of excellence. It was ranked 7th in the UK in terms of “world-leading and internationally excellent” research by the UK government’s REF2014 evaluation. SCC is a research-intensive environment comprising of over 60 academics and 130 researchers, with a grant portfolio exceeding £21m from a wide range of sources including EPSRC, Innovate UK, EU and industry.
