Senior Research Associates in Machine Learning and Systems Security

We are seeking a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join our team as part of the £3M EPSRC TAS Security node (TAS-S) at Lancaster University. This position is open to both UK-based and international applicants. 

We are seeking candidates with research interests and expertise in one or more of the following areas: distributed systems, security, Machine Learning (ML). This position offers a suitable degree of freedom on research project directions within the systems domain, including but not limited to distributed threat modelling, security risk assessment of ML, and secure ML computing systems. Experience or familiarity in the following technologies is desired, but not essential: Tensorflow, PyTorch, TVM, Kubernetes, KubeFlow, CUDA, NVML, SGX, TrustZone. 

This position offers an excellent opportunity to explore blue sky and applied research, as well as collaborate with a multi-disciplinary group of investigators in accomplishing cutting-edge research in systems security. The role will encompass: 

  • Pursuit of research within the areas of systems, security, and ML.
  • Research engagement with the project’s internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participation in project workshops, seminars, dissemination and outreach events. 
  • Support on reports, presentations, and research proposals. 
  • Supervision of the PhD positions provided to support the candidate’s research.

 You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which, at this time is for 18 months. 

This is a full-time position, expected to start on/after September 1, 2021.
