A Research Associate post is available, linked to the EPSRC/BT prosperity partnership Next Generation Converged Digital Infrastructure (NG-CDI) project. 

NG-CDI is a five year, £5M programme of research funded by EPSRC and BT that is forging the next generation converged digital infrastructure for the UK, delivering a radically new data-driven architecture for the autonomous operation of future telecommunications infrastructure.  The consortium brings together leading research groups from the Universities of Lancaster, Cambridge, Bristol and Surrey working alongside BT, one of the world’s leading communications service providers. 

This is a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of networking infrastructure and to develop research that will have significant impact with industrial partners. You will be responsible for conducting research and contributing to the development of a scalable, autonomic management system for future networks. This will involve research on topics such as service orchestration, data modelling, policy language design, machine learning and predictive modelling.  

We invite applications from enthusiastic individuals who have a strong Undergraduate degree (Higher Qualifications are desirable). You should be able to demonstrate proficiency in programming using languages such as Python or R, and experience in one of the following areas is essential; Computer Networks, Machine Learning or Optimisation.  Familiarity with Software Defined Networking (SDN) or Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) would be considered advantageous. We will also highly value your ability to learn rapidly and to adapt to new technologies beyond your current skills and expertise. 

The role will require you to engage with stakeholders including industry, and to support the technical coordination of activities between project partners; therefore, effective communication skills, interpersonal skills and experience of working collaboratively are essential attributes.
