Research Associate for Particle Physics distributed computing

To support the computing and storage hardware resources of the GridPP collaboration and its partners such as IRIS. This post will also support the required middleware and Grid software for GridPP activities. You will work in collaboration with the NorthGrid “Tier-2” (a collection of collaborating Grid computing resources at various institutions, under a common management board) in the installation, publication and reporting of policy, availability and accountancy software; and with the wider GridPP and Worldwide LHC Computing Grid technical teams. Given the evolving nature of the distributed computing environment, independent research and development of emerging technologies is encouraged.

Experience with Linux or Unix operating systems, OO/C++ and similar programming languages, containerisation and Grid middleware would be highly desirable.

The Physics Department ( is highly ranked in UK league tables, nearly a half of its academic staff are involved in STFC-funded research (experimental and theoretical particle physics, accelerator science and cosmology; but also quantum technologies for fundamental physics). 

The jobs will involve travel (funded under the project) to local, national and occasional international meetings and workshops. Due to COVID-19 restrictions remote working is encouraged and supported.
