Experienced tutors required for fixed-term summer programme positions on Lancaster University’s EAP (Study Skills) Programme

  • 2 weeks part-time tutor induction, August 23rd - September 3rd 2021

  • 4 weeks teaching, September 6th to October 1st 2021

The EAP (Study Skills) Programme caters for international students intending to study at Lancaster University who are required or wish to improve their English language and study skills before starting their degree programmes. The programme aims to help students develop their higher-level academic language and study practices, and features specially tailored materials provided to tutors, a supportive and collegial teaching environment, and an induction period at full pay. In response to the pandemic and after positive feedback from tutors and students in 2020, the programme will be delivered online again. This also means that tutors can work from home in any country.

EAP Tutors are expected to moderate students’ progress online (using the programme materials provided or developed during the induction). The posts are full-time and intensive, and involve teaching, lesson planning and preparation, setting and marking of assignments and tests, and digital record-keeping, report writing, provision of feedback on students’ writing, student profiling, participation in programme planning and in all other aspects of course-related administration, including meetings, as determined by the programme Coordinators.

A tailor-made package of teaching materials and other resources is provided for each main programme component. A two-week part-time orientation, in which tutors are introduced to the programme teaching materials and procedures, and digital platforms is built into the beginning of the posts and is at the full rate of pay. The first week of the orientation is independent learning so that tutors can work around other commitments.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.

N.B. If you wish to be considered for both EAP and Study Start Tutor positions, please apply only for the EAP Tutor position and indicate this when applying.

Due to the short-term nature of this role, we are not able to support candidates in getting a work visa.
