The Department of Mathematics and Statistics was rated 'Excellent' in the last Teaching Quality Assessment and the Statistics Group has a highly regarded RAE research rating. You will be able to benefit from the innovative environment provided by the Postgraduate Statistics Centre, which focuses on enhancing and extending postgraduate statistical training in a research-led environment.

You will be responsible for analysing several medically-related research projects. These projects relate mainly to the development and validation of patient related outcome measures, and diagnostic procedures for use on or in relation to the care of children and young people with diabetes, cystic fibrosis and cerebral palsy, and adult cancer patients.

You must possess the ability to work as a team and have excellent communication skills to explain statistical concepts clearly to multidisciplinary research team members. A working knowledge of statistical modelling techniques and an interest in applying statistical methods in an applied medical and social setting is also required. Previous research experience in latent variable modelling and in using R, STATA and/or MPlus would be desirable. Supervision/training will be provided as necessary to suitable candidates. There is also the opportunity to participate in short course teaching to participants from health and/or social science or related backgrounds, and to participate in designing new teaching and learning initiatives.

You should hold, or expect soon to complete an MSc or PhD in Statistics, Medical Statistics or Applied Statistics.
