Departmental Officer

Salary:   £25,298 to £31,076

Sociology is a large department with over 75 staff covering a mix of disciplinary areas (Gender and Women’s Studies, Media and Cultural Studies, Social Work and Sociology) at undergraduate and postgraduate level. We have a vibrant PhD community of over 80 students.

The Departmental Officer works closely with the Head of Department and other members of academic and administrative staff to support the smooth running of the department. We are looking for an excellent communicator with skills that will enable you to lead creatively on any administrative changes arising from University, Faculty and Departmental Strategy going forward.

Day to day responsibilities include managing administration relating to staff recruitment, employment and financial administration alongside the Head of Department.  You will be expected to set and maintain high standards of administrative service and provide reports as required and to supervise a number of administrative staff.

You should have recent experience of working in an administrative and supervisory role in a Higher Education institution.
