Following the award of funding for an industry-university collaborative project, a vacancy has become available for a Graduate Engineer to contribute towards the mechanical engineering design and construction of a new additive manufacturing (3D printing) technology platform. Based in the Engineering Department of Lancaster University, you will be delivering against work packages associated to the mechanical design and development of a novel, large-scale additive manufacturing / 3D printing machine for production applications.
The successful candidate will have a first degree (awarded during the last three years) in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Computer Aided Engineering or a related subject area. You will be creative and exhibit excellent problem solving skills. You must have an understanding of the wider function of mechanical engineering design, including optimisation of mechanical and thermal performance using tools such as Finite Element Analysis, design management techniques, etc.
You will be working closely with colleagues developing the electronic, software and other systems within the machine, ensuring that all design activities are fully integrated. An enthusiastic attitude, with a positive approach will be important. This is an exciting opportunity to work and gain valuable experience in an interesting and innovative project, and to have a key role in the development and management of an important new manufacturing technology. Supplementary training, where required, can be provided to the right candidate.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join a project consortium of National and International companies working in collaboration with Lancaster University.
This role is supported by funding from Innovate UK and is available for up to 24 months in the first instance.
