The position combines enrolment into the full-time PhD Program in Accounting and Finance and teaching-related duties in academic programs offered by the Department. The purpose of the role is to undertake a PhD while gaining teaching-related experience. You will be working alongside world leading academics in a busy, exciting and innovative department. This post is part of LUMS efforts to further strengthen its academic standing as a world class business school. The role is equally suited to a recent Masters graduate or an experienced professional with a Masters-level qualification who is interested in transitioning into an academic career.

The department offers an excellent research environment, with a high level of collegiality, subscriptions to state-of-the-art databases, a strong seminar series, and a senior visitors program.  The Department of Accounting and Finance is one of the largest departments within LUMS – a world-ranked international business school that has consistently ranked among the UK's top ten universities for nearly two decades. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, LUMS was ranked first in the UK in research power and is one of few business schools whose programs are accredited by all three international business school accreditation bodies: AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB. The Master in Finance program offered by the department was ranked 27th in the world (5th in the UK) by Financial Times. More information about the department can be found at: http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/lums/accounting-and-finance/.

The Department offers a PhD Program in Accounting and Finance. PhD students are required to complete a portfolio of PhD level courses and seminars covering accounting and finance theory, econometric and statistical methods and research methodology. Upon successfully completing the course work, you will work on your research as a part of your PhD dissertation. You will also have the opportunity to gain international experience by visiting a leading US school with expertise in a relevant research area. More details about the program structure, requirements and how to apply can be found at: http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/lums/accounting-and-finance/research/phd/.

You should be committed to completing your PhD degree in accounting or finance, and should meet the requirements for the enrolment into the PhD program. You should also be committed to pursuing an academic career. You should be able to pursue your own independent research programme under the supervision of a team of experienced supervisors. You should have competence to assess and potentially deliver material at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

You should submit your application online at https://hr-jobs.lancs.ac.uk/. We will start screening the candidates on 15 January 2018. Applications arriving after that date will be considered if the position is not filled.  Additionally, all candidates applying after 15 January 2018 will be considered for the PhD scholarship. The application package must contain a cover letter, CV, degree transcripts for Masters and undergraduate study, two letters of reference (at least one of which should be an academic reference), and examples of academic writing (e.g., research proposal, Master thesis). You are expected to meet the minimum entry requirements for the PhD program (see http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/lums/accounting-and-finance/research/phd/how-to-apply/ for a list of requirements).

Start date: 1 October 2018
