The Engineering Department at Lancaster University wishes to appoint an experienced and highly motivated technician to join our technical team in the Engineering Department.

You will be member of the department working in an exciting environment with the full infrastructure of a modern manufacturing facility. Your work will primarily be within the Department’s mechanical workshop and laboratory facilities. There will be development opportunities around the operation of new generation high precision CNC machines and laser welding equipment. You will support the mechanical requirements of student projects, teaching laboratories, research activities and outreach missions. You will be experienced across a broad range of conventional and CNC machine tools. Ideally you will have experience in CAD and processing for manufacturing. The Engineering Department actively encourages professional staff development through personalised training and support programmes.

You will be working closely with colleagues in the wider department including academic teaching and research staff along with undergraduate and post graduate students.

You should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. In addition to your workshop skills you should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

The Department is ranked highly in national league tables; in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 91% of research and 100% of impact in General Engineering was assessed as internationally excellent and world-leading. The Department has strong links with industry nationwide and works with a portfolio of hundreds of SMEs in the north-west of England alone, supported by the in-house Lancaster Product Development Unit (LPDU).

Lancaster University is campus-based, and is situated adjacent to the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and proximate to another AONB and two National Parks in the north-west of England. Lancaster is just one hour from international airports at Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds.
