The Research Services office is part of the university’s Research and Enterprise Services Division and provides expert advice, guidance and administrative support to Lancaster University’s research community in the development of bids for externally funded research and the administration of successfully awarded grants and contracts. The team provides a range of research support activities at both pre- and post-award including advice on funders’ terms and conditions, proposal preparation, costing and pricing, ethical approval and post-award grant administration for research grants and contracts from a diverse range of researcher funders.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual to join the Research Services pre-award support team to take on a varied and demanding role. The post provides financial administrative support in relation to the preparation of research costs and submission of research funding applications and tenders to all forms of research funding across a wide spectrum of external funders working with staff across the university. This role works closely with the Research Development Officers to finalise financial information, and to co-ordinate the internal approval system. The team also provide support to our academics and advises them on funders terms and conditions and eligibility.

You should have experience of providing administrative support in a research or project administration role, in a higher education institution. You should have excellent numerical skills, good financial awareness and a good understanding of costing and pricing research grants.

You should also have experience and be confident using computer packages to complete tasks quickly and accurately within short deadlines and with regular re-prioritisation. 

Excellent communication skills are essential, as is a commitment to providing high levels of accuracy and the ability to plan your own workload. You should be self-motivated and keen to develop new skills which will be supported by peers and managers.

This is a full time post until December 2020 to cover temporary staff absence (secondment).
