Development Manager (Internationalisation, Community & Societies) (Maternity Cover)

Students' Union
Salary:   £26,715 to £32,817
Closing Date:   Monday 17 February 2020
Reference:  N2336

Can you motivate and bring out the best in our student leaders and volunteers?

Are you passionate about driving positive change?

Do you take pride in taking action to ensure everyone feels like they belong?

Could you enable them to develop their own activities and skills so that they can make the most of their own experiences and create vibrant community activity on campus and in the wider local community?

We’re looking for someone with passion, enthusiasm and energy to join our busy team in supporting our work around community. Community can mean many things; previously this meant building relationships with the local community and finding projects both provide benefits to local groups whilst creating opportunities for our students. Whilst this still remains true, this role has also matured into providing support and acting as a catalyst to many of our campus communities.

The role is multi-faceted:

• Giving direction to our work with societies and student leaders on groups as diverse as cheerleading to politics; Harry Potter to LA1 TV our, student TV station

• Working with local community groups on projects that provide much needed support for them and creating exciting and worthwhile opportunities for our students wishing to develop job winning skills

• Supporting a plethora of student events; everything from supporting high profile guest speakers to ensuring quality contributions to Black History Month to our Fireworks Extravaganza

• Furthering the Union’s internationalisation agenda by providing support and positive challenge to over 50 cultural and international student communities on campus

Using your excellent organisational skills and ability to work proactively, your work will directly enhance the portfolio of opportunities available through the Students’ Union. Through your relationship building skills you will make it easy for students to get involved by creating clear engagement pathways on campus and in the city. Whether it is organising events or running student leadership training, you will need to think creatively and capture the interest of students, particularly those who might not normally get involved.

You will build upon successes to date, but also kick-start new initiatives, particularly around enhancing the student leader. You will take a leading role in the delivery of externally funded projects which support students having fun, but also their success and retention, and wider agendas such as outreach. You will deliver challenging targets set whilst ensuring that achievements are communicated both within the University and the wider media.

You should have experience of supporting relevant quality assurance and records management systems and as you will take day-to-day responsibility for monitoring and controlling a number of projects, their related risks, health and safety and assigned budgets.  You’ll be able to use this data to give the Union insight and understanding of how to identify trends, target improvement and measure impact.

As this is a maternity cover role for a period of 12 months, we are looking for the successful candidate to join the team as swiftly as possible to maximise this time and the opportunity.

We would welcome applications for secondments from within the University but would also be keen to hear from those outside of the University looking for the next step in their professional development.

You can read more about at the Union and its work at where you can also read our impact report.

For an informal chat about the role, please get in touch with Martin Ennis on 01524 592579 or with any questions you may have.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
