Funder: National Institutes of Health// Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
Principal Investigator (at LU): Professor Kate Cain
A Research Associate (0.8 FTE) is being sought to work on a 5 year NIH/NICHD collaborative project between Kansas University Medical Center (Bridges, PI), Arizona State University (Gray, site PI), and Lancaster University (Cain, site PI). The position is 0.8 FTE.
You should have a Ph.D. in psychology, linguistics, or a closely related discipline, with a focus on language and/or literacy development or disorders. You will work closely with Professor Kate Cain and Dr Robert Davies on a project to explore monolingual and bilingual reading comprehension. The main data collection takes place in the US, but the Lancaster site is pivotal for developing key reading comprehension measures, including reading time tasks, for overseeing the training of US RAs in administering those measures, and in overseeing the data-cleaning for those and other measures. The successful application will be expected to take an active and leading role in developing papers for publication, including help with data analysis. Applicants should have experience of designing and running experimental studies of language and/or literacy and good statistical analysis skills. Experience of advanced statistical techniques such as linear mixed effects or structural equation modelling is desirable. The ability to travel to off-site locations that may not be accessible by public transportation is also desirable for pilot data work.
The starting date for the position is 1st February 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.
