Research Associate in resonant cavity and superlattice infrared photodetectors

A vacancy exists for an experimental postdoctoral research associate within the Physics department to carry out research into the epitaxial growth, fabrication and characterisation of novel resonant cavity enhanced infrared detectors. The work will focus on realisation and optoelectronic characterisation of these detectors across the mid and long wave infrared spectral range.  In particular, the integration of superlattice absorbers will be a key target to extend operation to long wavelengths.  The detector prototypes will be shared with industrial collaborators for assessment towards applications in environmental, defence and medical sensing.  

You must have a PhD in physics or a related subject area. A good understanding of semiconductor physics and the core characteristics of narrow bandgap III-V materials is required. To support the growth and fabrication of detectors for both study and prototype preparation, experience of epitaxial growth by molecular beam epitaxy and cleanroom device processing is essential. Experience in the optoelectronic characterisation of infrared detectors is also highly desirable.  In addition, you should be a good communicator being able to work as part of a team and with good inter-personal skills.Collaboration with industry is at the core of the project and hence experience in this area is strongly desirable. 

This is a fixed term position for 12 months.
